Day 5 of LL- The most important part of this building is SUPPOSED to be unsophisticated?

πŸ‘‘ Near the center of India, stood a beautiful and romantic building. Like the Great Wall of China, it has made its way to become one of the new πŸ‘‘ seven wonders of the world. It was built between 1632 and 1653 AD, and most of it was made up of white marble and red sandstone. Also, when you translate its name to English, it literally means Crown of the Palace,” and this place is the Taj Mahal.

The Taj Mahal, which was about 73 metres tall, was built during the Mughal Empire. It took approximately 21 years of construction until it was finally done. This building was not just built for fun or a place for the emperor to go in the summer, but instead, it actually has a romantic love story behind it!

As many of you have already known, many emperors in history had married various wives over their lifetime, so unsurprisingly, so do Shah Jahan. He married 7 wives and all of his spouses were loved by him, but there was this one wife who the powerful emperor loved the most. Her name was Arjumand Banu Begum, but she was more commonly known as Mumtaz Mahal. She was the third wife of Shah Jahan although she was his first love. This couple got married in 1612, and reunited for 19 years as they raised their 14 children. However, she passed away when she gave birth to her last child in 1631. The death of Shah Jahan’s most loving wife made his heart to break into little pieces. He later decided to build an enormous tomb to remember Mumtaz Mahal. The construction started one year after her death, and it didn’t end until nearly two decades later.

Why was it designed that way? According to Muslim rules, graves can not be decorated too much because it would show an inappropriate expression of vanity. That’s why the Taj Mahal was designed that way!

And that’s it for today, bye for now! πŸ˜ƒ
