Day 9 of LL- The Japanese Temple Pt.2🌸

In the previous blog, I talked about the legend of how the Kiyomizu-Dera temple came about, but to most of us here, Japanese isn’t a language we are particularly familiar with. Therefore, we might not even know what “Kiyomizu” mean! To better understand this topic, I did some research and found out that Kiyomizu means “pure water” in English, so the Kiyomizu temple literally means the pure water temple. It may seem like a pretty random name, but it actually isn’t since the name was inspired from where it’s located in, the Otowa waterfall in the wooded hill east of Kyoto.

This temple is an amazing place to look at the astonishing view of cherry blossoms and maple trees. The pink colour from the cherry blossoms and the red-orange colour from the maple leaves combine together to create a picture of spring and autumn. In fact, a wooden stage just outside the main hall made it easy to do so. Although nails were not used in the construction of the wooden stage, it still manages to stay attached to the main hall.

I bet the view from there is fantastic. I mean the temple literally
hangs over cliff, so how can it not bebe beautiful to look over Kyoto from there? I think standing there would make you feel like a free, little bird because there are not many chances out there to stand at a cliff.

Remember the deity that was mentioned in the blog before? The one who asked Enchin to stay but ended up going back to heaven? That's who is being worshipped by the people in the temple. Inside the main hall, there is a small statue of an eleven faced and thousand armed Kannon.

Not only that, but behind the main hall sits the Jishu Shrine. It's shrine dedicated to the deity of love and matchmaking and interestingly, in front of that sits
two stones that are 18 meters apart. Apparently, those two stones’ job is to bring you luck to finding your own true love or not. If you can look at one of the rocks, close your eyes, and open your eyes looking at the other rock them it will bring you luck in searching for true love. If that's too hard for you, it is allowed to have someone guide you in finding the other rock, but just know that will mean you will need guidance in life in order to find your soulmate as well.

Well that's for today, and since the Kiyomizu-Dera temple has so many interesting facts, I will continue talking about the rest in the next blog, so stay tuned! Bye!
I don't like birds but o well this gif doesn't look too badπŸ˜…
